Assistant Baker

Known for our exceptional coffee and a relaxed, welcoming environment, Porter has become a hub for the local community in Sheffield. Our team is at the core of the business, and we constantly strive to take care of our customers and improve upon what we do.

We are soon opening a second site, in which there will be a fully equipped bakery. This is an incredibly exciting moment for us; our goal is to offer viennoiserie, cakes and bread at the highest standard. Porter will be a home to exceptional coffee and exceptional baked goods.

We are looking for an Assistant Baker to join us on this journey, working closely alongside our Head Baker, who brings 30 years of experience across the UK and European artisan bakery industry.

This role is designed to support our Head Baker in the day-to-day running of the bakery. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, develop professionally, and contribute to a high-standard production environment by following clear direction and established processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Head Baker with daily production of bread and viennoiserie

  • Following recipes, production schedules, and processes to ensure consistency and quality

  • Maintaining product standards when covering the Head Baker’s days off or holidays

  • Assisting with bakery management tasks as required

  • Supporting the training and supervision of less experienced staff, including apprentices

  • Ensuring equipment is maintained and used correctly

  • Upholding cleanliness, food hygiene, and health & safety standards at all times

  • Maintaining accurate food safety and hygiene records

Skills

  • Experience in bread and viennoiserie production

  • A strong understanding of food hygiene and safety requirements

  • Organised, reliable, and able to manage your workload effectively

  • Quality driven, with meticulous attention to detail

  • Genuinely interested in our products and passionate about food

Hours: 25–30 hours per week, with potential for more (including weekends and early mornings).
Pay: £13–15.30 per hour, dependent on experience
